Default Automatic Transmission Malfunction Codes OBD2???

I am having a shifting problem on a 98 Accord V6 Auto. It shifts into gear hard and is slipping. I jumped the codes and I get a 70 in the CEL and a 40 in the D4 light.

I know the 70 CEL is a tranny problem but I don't know what 40 on the D4 light indicates because it is specific to the auto transmission.

Can someone please post transmission malfunction codes. Thanks

Lock-up clutch not engaging, but that's from my 4-cyl Helm book. You would find that in the CEL troubleshooting section, but you should use the 6-cylinder version of the book. They're not the same tranny, I don't know if the codes are the same.

That code is the same on the v6 model.

The lock-up clutch would be the torque converter right?

The tranny is really slipping now when its hot and tries to shift into gears. Anyone know of anything that may be causing this, other than the tranny being shot. The car has been babied and only has 70k miles.

The fluid is full. I don't know if its clean cuz i haven't drained it. It had a tranny fluid change less than 10k miles ago.

Well I've been researching this problem and seems like the J-series trannies are all going bad. Honda is extending the warrenties for 2000+ cars, so I'm out of luck with my 98...bastards.
