Default auto transmission slipping

my friend has a 01 prelude, his transmission is acting a little strange. When he puts it into a gear, it takes a couple of seconds (longer than it should) to engage. When he comes to a stop, the car jolts/jumps. why would it be doing this? fluid level is fine.
