Default auto trans fluid for hondas

I have a 97 crv that i,ve only had a few months. I got it from my parents and it just just turned 120k miles. in the last week the lockup converter just unlocks while I am at 60mph at a steady speed and stays unlocked. My parents bought the vehicle new and it is in great shape (it was taken care of well)
Anyway I am thinking the trans fluid could use changing.
Is the trans fluid for my 97 crv really that specific that it can only be found at the dealer?
And is there any other way to get more than 3 quarts out of it without dissasembling the trans? when I asked this question at the honda dealership i was told to to change 3 quarts out about 4 times.
thanks
Jim

Only use Honda ATF, because of the Z1 additive in it. Also, you can't drop the pan on Honda/Acura auto trannies, so the best way to change out most of the fluid is doing multiple flushes. The dealer was correct, just drain and refill your ATF 3-4 times, making sure to drive a little between each flush. You could have a T-Tech machine do a flush, but I wouldn't recommend it for Honda AT's.

yea, just buy a case of ATF-Z1.. and a new crush washer for your final fill.
just drain and fill, then drive like a mile or so, be sure to put it through all gears. then repeat two more times. on the last time, use the new crush washer. torque of the drain bolt it 33 ft/lbs.
