Default attn tranny experts: a question about syncronizers...

i have a friend who wants to swap his b16 hydro tranny for my ls! catch is, his 3-4 grinds at high rpm. other than that it's butter. i have a spare ls tranny sitting around opened up and it had a bad 2-3 syncro. i am wondering if the one i need in the ls (3-4) is compatible in the b16? y/n, any solid answers would be greatly appreciated. i am trading regardless, but it would be nice if i had the fix in my garage. thanks.

-kevin.

your problem is the hubrings they typically wear out and cause that awful grinding
you can buy the set at honda for around 200 and they come in 1-2 , 3-4 and 5th gear sets
and no b16 synchros are not compatible with ls

It's worth it to open up the b16 trans and see if it is in fact the synchros that are worn. 9.5 out of 10 trannies I see that grind do not have bad synchros but rather the synchro teeth on the gear itself (the hubring as revhard called it) are worn. In this case, the only thing you can do to fix it is replace the affected gears.

Synchros from hydro LS and b16 trans should be identical.

Also, if you're experiencing grinding in 3rd AND 4th there's a good chance the problem is related to your 3/4 shift fork so that's worth checking out as well.
