ok guys ive had my ls swap for quite a while now, ive been using the ls tranny and ive got the chance to upgrade to a b16 tranny. Actually ill be removing the gearset from my ls and installing the b16 gearsets. So what kind of difference will a b16 tranny on a ls engine make in the 1/8th compared to the same engine with an ls tranny? i figured this tranny will be good for my all motor setup anyway, since im planning on reving to 8k soon(once i do some headwork). So anyone have any input on using this tranny or input on how to safely switch the b16 gearsets and ring gear into the ls case. (reason im switching is because i bought a b16 tranny with a broken case for cheap)Thanks...

a b16 tranny over an ls will be like night and day, good choice

sweet, thats good to know, im wanting to use ls 5th but im afraid of tearing int othe gearsets! i know i can pull the case apart and put it back on fine, my problem is im going to use the ls diff. but the b16 ring gear, how hard is that to swap??? and what special tools do i need?

edit: and i just want ot make sure i dont have to swap anything else, can i jsut pull the whole countershaft, mainshaft and shift for assembly out of the b16 tranny, and put it in the ls case and all i have to change is the ring gear??? anyone happen to have a pic of the ring gear so i know what im going to be looking at??? ive done 1 d-series tranny but all i did was install a new reverse shift fork assembly, so im still a LITTLE lost, plus im going to be carless while i do this work since hte ls tranny is my ONLY tranny, but it has a nasty 3rd gear grind so this might just be worth it

WIthout an LS 5th gear your freeway gas mileage is going to go in the toilet. Other than that you will LOVE the result.


I would pay a transmission shop to swap the gearsets if you have never put a manual transmission together before. They are confusing the first couple of times you take em apart. Buy an old crap tranny practice taking it apart and putting it together. Don't use your good tranny as a guinea pig.

would you use a B16 tranny and just change 5th to the LS gear or would you use the LS tranny and put the B16 gears in it???
