Default Attn ECU Guru

Eversince a misshift while drag racing my car has been throwing a 73 CEL code. This code is for a "Cylinder #3 Missfire". My guess is a bent valve from all the ticking coming from the valve cover.
My question is...How does the ECU know that it is the #3 cylinder that has the missfire. Which sensor(s) is(are) telling the ECU that something is malafunctioning in the #3 cylinder?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

the crank fluctuation sensor and cylinder position sensors most likely.
