Default Another H22a manual tensioner topic, sorry.

Reciently my h22a's auto tensioner went out. Which caused it to make a loud noise when I let off the gas anything higher than 3.5k and it will stop at around 2k. I got the auto tensioner replaced with a manual tensioner and the noise was completely gone till I drove it on the freeway. The noise is much more quieter but it is still there.

I adjusted the tension on the manual tensioner by:

1) removing the valve cover

2) setting the engine at TDC
3) loosening and tightining the adjuster nut
4) turning the crankshaft 3 teeth counter-clockwise
5) loosening and tightining the adjuster nut.

After doing this I still notice the sound.

Is it possible that something is damaged or do I need to adjust the tensioner again?

You may want to try to adjust the tensioner again and see what happens. Something else may be causing a noise also though.

To adjust the tensioner, you need to loosen the adjustment bolt, turn the crank 3 teeth, then re-tighten the bolt, then double check to make sure it hasn't jumped any teeth..

Does it sometimes take more than one try? It hasen't jumped any teeth. I'm pretty sure of that.

actually I noticed that it goes away and comes back after a few minutes. Maybe I am not tightening the adjusting screw enough? How hard does it need to be? I cant fit a torque wrench up there.
