Another Crazy Tach Question
I've searched this, and came up with tons.
Problem, tach goes crazy at 5000, then goes all the way back to 0 at probably 8000ish my guess. I just did a B18C into my se integra.
I just tried changing my icm/ignitor, after reading plenty of posts, about how this is a sign of icm dieing. But I changed my icm and my car still does this.
Also, I read about the ground on the thermostat, I have looked here, and it is tight. Are there any other specific points in particular that I should look at for grounds? I tried unplug - replug - wiggle, the large main connector on the distributor. I have read about someone that just changed plugs and wires, and that solved their problem, but that doesen't sound logical, checked, and made sure my spark plug wires are tight and my plugs look fine to me aswell. Someone else mentioned a 'vacuum leak' and that I don't see any way logical at all. What would a vacuum leak have to do with tach signal???
Anyway, if anyone could point me in a closer direction, being my icm is fine.

The engine seems to rev just fine, I just don't know how far to rev it before redline. Once the tach gets to arround 5000 it wiggles there, and when I assume my motor is at 8000 the tach drops down to 0, Then, when I let off the accelerator, and the car coasts, the tach climbs slowly till about 2000, then shoots up to 5000 and goes back down normally. I wish it was just my icm, because this is bugging me.
i had this problem for almost a year in my h22 integra. The problem ended up being a loose ecu ground, which now that I think about it makes perfect sense. I had no idea what it is, cause all my grounds were on and I tried every solution. It ended up being the ecu ground wasn't tightened down, and that was ENOUGH to make it so the tach would bounce and go crazy as the *engine load got higher*. So i would really check that out. Also, when the tach bounces does the car bog or misfire, or does it still rev smooth and fine?
There is no bog or misfire, and revs smooth and fine. Where specifically is the ecu ground? On the thermostat right? I think it is tight, I will re check it again tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it is tight. As well as other engine grounds, I checked them and they are also tight.
I just tried switching my ecu with my ls ecu, and the tack works completely fine, other than the rev limit cuts the motor out at 7000.
Do you think that my gsr ecu is just no good?
