shavings were silver in color. that oil is only 200 miles old. that along with the chunk makes me think piston / piston wall then; correct?

you couldnt even feel them they were so fine. like it was part of the damn oil.

ran a magnet across everything and it picked up nothing. would bearing shaving have been picked up?

Had you done anything to the engine lately, like rebuilding it?

i had put a different oil pan on it. the oil pan had a slight dent in it. once in a while the oil light would come on for a split second then go away for a while. it was only driven about 200 miles like that before i got a chance to remove the pan and pound out the dent. thats when i discovered this.

Possible that your oil pickup was slightly dented, too, and now is no longer perfectly submerged in your undented oil pan? I've run into that before.

Not all bearing material is bronze colored. The old magnet test will tell you if there's something ferrous in there - more likely than not shavings of cyl wall. You really have to dig deep in a bearing to get to the steel (ferrous) backingplate.

Pull the connecting rod caps and see if you have imbedded particles in the bearings.
