Air intake causing car to run lean?
Well here it goes. I have had an aftermarket intake on my 98 Accord for a just replaced my plugs. Looking at them they looked as if the motor was running lean. Can the intake make that possible? This is the only mod done to the motor.
I know that the computer runs on a preprogramed chart after a certain load or throttle opening and was wondering if this intake makes enough of a diff to make the motor run lean, same fuel amount just more air now! If it is the problem what could fix it, a FPR? Any ideas!? Thanks!

Make sure to reset the ECU after installing any aftermarket performance items.
Run the car for 5 minutes. Shut down and remove the ECU fuse for another 5 minutes. Then replace the fuse and run the car another 5 minutes. Then shut off.

If you install intake, headers, exhaust, then I would worry about engine running lean. Just intake doesn't effect it too much. B&M make a good FPR; command flow.
Does running lean mean that the ratio of air to fuel is off such that the air component is a bit too high?
If so, is this why turbo people generally have bigger injectors, to deliver more fuel to make the A/F ratio optimal?
and then I assume "rich" = too much fuel eh?

I was replacing my plugs the other day and noticed that they had a slight yellow tint on them. Also, plug # two had small metal frags on the insulator tip, from what I hear that equals detonation!? The only thing I figured was that the air intake changed the A/F ratio and caused the motor to run lean and hotter than normal. Also using 87 octane probably didn't help. I never reset the ECU until I changed the plugs, I haven't checked them since then. Any suggestions?
resetting the ecu definatly works. i fitted an induction kit an de-cat pipe to my civic twincam vtec and the car was running like ****. the vtec didnt come on til late (if it came on at all) and the check engine light was coming on. it didnt get better at all for 2 weeks(in fact it seemed to be getting worse) until someone advised me to reset my ecu. guess what, running like a dream and faster than ever.
