Default Air/Fuel Gauges, Useless or Helpful

I am debating on putting a a/f gauge in my car just to see how its running. I will not be using a WB02 just a stock 02 sensor. Whats your opinion on them?

People who can't afford wideband still deserve to know 'about' where they are at WOT!!

get an egt instead.... it only costs 4x as much. at least it's accurate though.

the hotter the temp, I believe closer to 1600 then you are running really lean.

I believe most of them are junk.

If you cant afford an EGT or wideband O2 then get an A/F meter. I like the one from http://www.dawesdevices.com

Its easier to read and more accurate than most A/F meters.

If you had a wideband o2 sensor and a a/f gauge. Would it be accurate?

EGT temp at the right A/F ratio is different for all cars. you can't just say 1500 is good unless you tested it with a WBO2. the temp can go up depending on ignition timing, too lean or too rich etc.... So IMO an EGT is far more useless than a lightup A/F meter.

I'm going to go ahead and say that is an O2 display, not really a meter.

Here are some options:
http://www.suprastore.com/gredairfuelk.html

this link provided the most information about the product, I'm not sure that it is a real wideband, details are still a little sketchy, could be a nice device.

http://www.aempower.com/product_ems.asp
"Gauge type Wideband UEGO controller" has a nice form factor and is a true wideband.

Here is some background on widebands:

R1 and R2 calibrate the LM3914, C1 smooths it out so it dosent flicker

yeah. they are not as good as a wide band because of the slight delay. thare are definatly some that are better than others though. see my sig i am selling probably the best A/f guage on th market before stepping into a true wide band. it really is a nice piece.

Nothing you would want to use for tunning, but its good to know that when you are at WOT you are running rich and not lean.
