AEM DRYFLOW FILTER CLEANING ?
Ok, so I have an AEM SRI and I decided to clean it today. I read somewhere that AEM was using K & N filters in their intakes. So I bought K & N Filter cleaner, but when I took the filter off of my intake I saw that it was actually a Dryflow filter and it said not to oil it. The K&N solution came with a cleaning solution and also an oil solution. Would it be ok for me to use just the cleaning solution on the filter? Or is it an absolute must to buy the AEM Dryflow cleaning kit?
Replacement and compressed air aren't the only means of cleaning the Dry Flow filter. OP mentioned that AEM sells a Dry Flow filter cleaning kit.
OP: the cleaning solution for the oiled filters looks to be different than the cleaning solution for the dry flow filters. At least they're labeled differently.
Doesnt really belong in this forum, but I will answer your question.
Most filters say to never use compressed air on filters to clean them.
For the AEM Dryflow all you have to do is use a mild detergent. Usually they will just say simple green. Fill a bucket with water and spray the outside of the filter with the cleaner. Let in sit for about 2-5min all depends on you. dunk the filter in the bucket and spin the filter, but be careful not to overflow into the filter. Rinse the same way just without the cleaner. Shake the filter to remove water as good as you can and let dry out in the sun. Should dry in about 5-10 min. The AEM dryflow is made from a Synthetic Polymer Blend. In easy terms its kinda like boardshorts. They can take water, but water never really sticks to them that is why boardshorts usually dry quickly as compared to regular shorts when you go in a pool.
You can buy the AEM cleaner if you want, but you can use any mild detergent.
Hope this helps.

You can use any mild detergent. Does not have to be the AEM cleaning solution. I would suggest to stay away from dish washing soap the liquid kind as you can never really get it all out.
I would suggest simple green or even a clothes detergent or washing detergent(not liquid). You can mix the detergent with water and spray on the outside of the filter.
