Default ? About my Proposed LS/VTEC Setup

Okay, so I've been planning to do this LS/VTEC setup for some time now but I've got some simple questions that I hope someone can answer for me. Below is a list of what I've got:

B18b block (stock bore)
B16a head
JE 11.2:1 pistons
Eagle rods w/ARP bolts
AEBS head studs
Golden Eagle VTEC conversion kit
JDM CTR Intake Camshaft
B&M FPR

Now, here are my questions. With the above parts, would it be recommended to use a block guard due to the high compression? Is it safe to remove a layer of an OEM Honda head gasket? What kind of numbers, hp, torque, and compression, should I be looking at? And finally, will this be occassionally streetable on 92/93 octane?

**Also, if anyone knows a reputable(and decently priced) place to get an oil line made for my swap, let me know via IM**

What's the dome volume on those pistons? I think you may have a problem running them in this setup due to overly high compression, unless you're running a big cam.

And no, I wouldn't recommend using a blockgaurd. There's plenty of strength here assuming this is staying NA.

let me doublecheck on the dome height on the pistons. and yea, it's staying na, no boost here.

i have an 81.25mm bore w/ pr3 pistons and a b16 head and the head milled .020 and i dont run a block guard and it's not detonating on 93 octane.. you should be fine

Don't separate an OE headgasket... They're fine just the way they are and you have a lot better chance of getting a good seal... If we could use an OE headgasket on our high boost 500whp+ turbo cars I would, but since we can't you're forced to go with Cometic... They also make high compression head gaskets but I just don't recommend them... What are you pistons made for?? If they're for an LSVTEC with a PR3 (42.70cc) cylinder head then that's what your compession will be... 11.2:1 which is easily streetable on 92... We run a mix or straight 120 after 13.0:1 but up till there 92 works just fine... TUNING is everything once you get up there... What are you using for engine management?? Hondata or VAFC?? Either would work but if you wanna spend a little more money just go with Hondata that gives you more precise fuel maping and control over the timing maps... I'm not going to give you any set numbers but I would hope for 180-190whp... That's a pretty broad window, maybe more... By the way is this a stock head? Good Luck and let us know how it goes... Peace

I am currently running 13.0:1 c/r in my ls vtec w/ gsr crank. I run it on 93 octane w/ no det.
The secret is in the polishing. Very smooth combustion chambers and piston tops.
this reduces hot spots, provides a more even flame front and resists detonation.
You could substitute polishing for a hondata setup though prolly.
or run both

1_bad_EF - What's your base ignition timing vs. stock with that setup? And how much do you retard the ignition timing up near your torque peak vs. stock? Lastly, what a/f ratio do you run at WOT and high RPM, and what cams are you running?

ok, the dome volume is 1.7.

Are you sure? Because that isn't anywhere near an 11.2:1 piston. Use this to play around with the numbers. I had figured the pistons had -8cc of volume.
