96 Civic Help Please!!!
Hi guys
I'm trying to swap a 94 gsr (obd1) engine in to a 96 hatchback. To do this swap do i have to change the distrubutor and the alternator on the gsr engine to a obd2 or it doesnt matter. The body harness is missing from the civic and I have to get a new one. If that makes any difference. Thanks ahead for the help.

well it depends on wat ecu you are goin to run. If you are goin to run a obd1 gsr p72 then i would keep everything the way it is and source down a 0bd1 gsr engine harness. If you run a obd2 gsr ecu then the dizzy you can buy a adapter harness for to convert it to obd1 as for the alternator it goes back to wat ecu and harness you are goin to run.
Im new in this game so if i ask something stupid please don't crush me. First of all, Why am i getting a obd2 alternator? do i have to get a obd2 disturbutor too? Im using my obd1 p72 ecu with obd1 gsr engine harness. But here is where i'm having a little trouble. The body harness in the 96 civic which i believe is obd2 is missing. i bought the shell without knowing it. i really appreciate all the help im getting. Thanks.
let me ask you this. you said that the body harness is missing, do you mean the harness that is inside the engine bay, or the complete harness inside the car itself? I know that the 96-98 civics had a 1 piece engine harness which lead all the way to the ecu. if indeed you do still have the interior wiring in tact, going with an obd1 harness would lead you into more headaches. if you can track down an obd2 vtec civic harness out of the same year civic, it will all plug and play with the obd1 gsr motor. I did the same thing with my old 96 civic coupe. I re used my obd2 ex wiring harness and used an obd 1 LS motor. The only thing I did was pick up an obd2 to obd1 jumper harness, re pin the obd1 LS distributor with the obd2 plug off of the stock ex distributor, used an obd2 b series alternator (because the alternator plug on the obd2 harness is different from the obd1 alternator) and ran an obd1 ls ecu. If you use an ex harness, the only thing you should have to add is a wire for the intake manifold secondaries, and I believe knock sensor.
