hey all...

i have an obd2 gsr that i just got my hands on and i want to put it into my 94 civic...

i know that i can keep it obd2, but what would i need to change to make it completely obd1..??

yes ive tried searching... help me out..!! thanks!!!

shouldnt matter anyways because the harness will still plug up to your chassis

^^ will the harness and all the connectors plug right into everything..?

i thought obd2 harness is different... like its one piece as opposed to obd1 where its like two pieces...

Just leave the OBD2 harness on the GSR. Leave all the Main Elec. Comps. on the motor Drop it in and plug it in to your shock tower harness. OBD1 Ecu?

man things still dont make sense to me...

your saying to leave the obd2 harness on the engine and use that, but if the obd2 harness is one piece and an obd1 harness is 2 piece, how the hell is that supposed to work..??

Im sorry what kind of car you putting this in? 96-00 Civic? I assumed it was a 94-2001 Integra or 92-95 Civic. My bad.
So what year car and what motor?

oh no no..

its going to go into my 94 civic... so to sum it all up..

a 99 GSR motor (obd2) going into my 94 civic ex (obd1)

Okay yeah just drop the motor in! Leave the harness thats on the motor. 94 civic is a 2 piece harness like an integra. Just plug it in. You may need to add some wires/switch pin config. That all depends on what ecu you wanna use.

ok so just so i understand..

even though an 99 gsr motor is obd2, its still a 2 piece harness like an obd1 civic..??

what if i have a chipped p28 that i wanna use..??

If you want to change the 99 GSR motor to OBD1 you will need the following :

~ Injectors
~ Dizzy
~ Alt.
~Engine harness , if you dont have an OBD1 engine harness

The 99 GSR engine harness will plug into the car harness ( on the shock towers ), I did this on my 92 hatch. But I opted to convert everthing over to OBD1, was just easier that way and didn't have to change/de-pin any wires. Only had to run 1 wire , because im using an OBD1 P72 , so I had to run a wire for the knock sensor, but that was it.

I have a 92 hatch. W/ a 98 GSR swap I just dropped the motor w/ the 98 harness- 98 eveything. Switched a few wires around on the Passanger side shock tower harness. DONE. A chipped p28 makes it easier. That means less wires to switch.
Why switch the harness to obd1? That means you gotta find a new distrib. and alternator?

It was just easier that way, and I had the stuff readily available to me.. To make things painless , thats the way I would do it, convert everything over to OBD1 .

Its the same tho. Just different style plugs. And instead of the crank angle sensor in the distributor its down below inside of timing cover.

OBD1 doesn't use the crank angle sensor.

other than that you'e spot on, OBD2 harness on OBD2 engine, plugs into the OBD1 shock towr harness of the OBD1 civic.
add the wire for the IAB from the shock tower plugs to the ECU and you should be done. (privided you're going to run your P28 chipped with P72 maps, if you want to use a P72 then you need to run the knock sensor wire as well.)

I run almost the exact setup daily with no problems. (sensor wise it's the same as an OBD2 car with an OBD2-OBD1 jumper and OBD1 ECU)

it seems to me that all i really need to do is drop everything in as normal and just use a chipped p28, cuz thats what i have..

would i still need to rewire or would the p28 take care of that..??

chipped P28 means you dont worry about knock sensor wire.. but the above listed wire will still have to be ran from the shock tower connection point to the ecu plug. (search and you can find pin out locations)
