92 vx check engine and brake light issues
Ok just got a rust free 92 vx. Dash lights didn't work so I had to replace all the bulbs and the dimmer switch. Fixed that however when you apply the brakes the dash lights come on and the parking lights also illuminate. Ok then after starting about 10 15 seconds later about the time the srs light goes out the check engine light comes on. It's a 41 and a 48. I have done the fan flow chart to check everything however when I got to the part about checking the terminals to ground the were all open curcuits. Then I thought I was not using the test harness and I the body of the ecu ground? It was not bolted in during the test. Please help. I have also checked the main relay an all the solder joints have been cleaned and resoldered. Thanks. Also the lag was replaced about a year ago but it is a no name. Anyone have a p007 they don't want or need? And a 5 wire for testing? Thanks. I'm not sure if they are realated problems or not. I know a couple of months ago the car had no check engine light. Also I know that the horn has been repaired. That's all the info I think I know. Please help I need the 50 mpgs

I'm in Ohio I've cleaned the grounds that I've seen one by drivers headlight and one by passenger stut tower I've checked the main plugs on pass strut tower they are all clean as can be still cleaned w contact cleaner and compressed air. Also I have no interior light. Is the ecu grounded to the case and then to the body? Could it be a bad brake switch? All the wiring looks untampered with but who knows. What other grounds should I clean check other than the main one from the battery?
Re dash/park lights coming on when brake is stepped on, most common problem is "warped" filament(s) in one, [or more] of the duel filament tail light bulbs, brake light filament and park light filament are touching each other in at least one of the duel filament bulbs.
To test, remove all dual filament bulbs, try brake, if problem gone, replave bulbs one at a time untill problem returns, toss/repace that bulb.
The second most common problem will be a poor tail light ground, all tail lights share a common ground.
The third, less likely problem is a short between the brake lead and a park light lead, I have seen this a few times when trailer plug has been messed with, plug cut off, and trailer plug harness hardwired instead of using a plug in adapter. 94

I followed the fsm and eveything was as it should be. I got to the part where you check to grounds and I had none the say that that means new ecu. I have sourced one. However in my original post the ecu was not bolted to car car ran but didn't know if ecu case was ground. The cat has been hollowed out not by me. The sensor looks as if it is a bit sooty black as if it were running rich. I blew it clean with compressed air and checked again days later and sooty. Have not read plugs yet. If the o2 wasn't like $350.00 dollars I would have alreay put one on the car. Also the one on the car is less than a year old. I just don't know who or where it came from, so no chance of warranty. Thanks oh and yea all connectors have been cleaned with contact cleaner. I found no shortes in any of the wires the all check ok.
Where are you located, how far from Columbus?
O2 sensors at PicknPull are $9.99, at that price you could pick up a few and try them, and return for credit the ones you do not use. 94

I'm about an hour and a half away from Columbus. by canton ive been to the pull a part and heck i've got another eg hatch but i need the 5 wire sensor and there arent any in the yard round here . heck if I could find another d15z1 engine and trans i probably would take the whole thing. i need a cat and a o2 for this one. Why the Columbus question?
There are over 20 Honda Civics at the Columbus PicknPull...

Maybe worth the trip, to see if they have what you need. 94

There are 10 that are eg's and then it has to come from a vx hatch. So that's 3 hours to drive round trip on a hope and a prayer. There are two pullaparts within 30 min of where I'm at and there are 7 or 8 92-95 and no hatches and defiantly no d15z1's. I only work 50 60 hours a week and have four kids so time is always well there never is any for me. A couple of people on here say they have them ive pm them so fingers crossed.
