92 electrical issue-- REAL help only plz
ok i am having an issue with my 92 hatch. i will try and keep it short as needed but all pert info. i am an ASE cert tech and i know electrical pretty well.
chassis:
92 dx civic
swap: gsr (oem uncut obd1 harness)
problem:
ok i have had car together for tad bit over a yr (full tear down and rebuild). about 2 months ago i was doing a full throttle pull to get ahead of traffic and ALL electrics went dark. did a quick check as i know only a few things can do this. found the IG (ignition 50a fuse) for the underhood fuse box was popped. ok np i swaped over a 40a for the "lights" and drove away and got a new one. so then fast forward to this AM. this time JUST cruising on my way to work at about 2500rpm in 5th and car went dark again. checked the same 50a fuse and it was pooped. so i get to my work and get on alldata and trace back the wiring. the 50a fuse circuit seems to getting/having a intermitten load put on it from the ICU (intagrated control unit) how ever i am not 100% sure if there is a way to acually tes this unit. i do NOT belive that the issue is on the battery cable side of the fuse as there is a fuse ahead (or behind) depending how you read diagram) and that one does not pop, ONLY the 50a IG fuse. so that tells me the extra amp draw is on ICU side of things.
the ONLY modds to the electrics is as followed:
the car was an auto (made an acual plug to plug "park" switch)
the under hood fuse box moved into cabin
battery under R/F coner of bumper
ALL is wired as it would be in oem location and ZERO splices made ANYWERE to move things.
i am using 4awg battey cable to compensate for any possible voltage/amp drop for longer charge/battery cables.
so any REAL techs got any idea's?
if i missed any needed info plz ask. i am not just wanting to throw parts at it.
