Default 89 accord charging problem

Hey guys.... My brother is having trouble with his 89 accord 5-speed. The car has slowly died on him in the past 2 days. Acted like an alternator, so we replaced it. The problem still happens, tested the battery, and that is good. Anyone have any ideas? Also, in the service manual it makes reference to a voltage regulator. We were under the impression that it was an internal one. And one more thing. What do the "FR" and "S" in the wiring diagram refer to?

Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks
Jimmy

How about all the connections, especially grounds. Engine to chassis ground, battery ground cable(s), whatever you can find. I don't know if the regulator was internal in '89, doesn't the manual say?
