i believe that washer missing is the only thing that can cause that.

its definately missing that washer. thers no other reason for it to punch out like that.

its happened to me before when i lifted the top hat to reposition it and the washer came up with it and didnt get back on the shock rod and was trapped inside the dust cover. when i saw it happen, i swore i put the washer on, but figured what happened when i found it inside.

do you think it would hurt anything to drive it 10 miles all highway to fix it. I think it should be fine.

yea i think it would hurt things. that shock would destroy your hood, plus your that side wont be dampened to well seeing as the shock wont compress.

really its weird cause i drove it for to days like this and it didnt start making noises until to day I wonder what made it act normal. Usaully when you lower the car back to the ground the strut will poke out like it is now. But it looked perfectly fine when I lowered back down after installing everything. ******* Weird.

the reason it did that is because it took time for the shock to push the sleeve out of the top-hat.

I hate doing things like that, I thought I forgot something after I did my steering rack install. Was dead tired at the end. Turns out I was in the clear - it was just that BOTH upper ball joints are toast.
