I've recently bought some coilovers to try out


The reason I picked these was because they are fully adjustable (perch height, sprint compression, and dampening)

the coilovers features:

• Front Spring Rate: 10 kg/mm
• Rear Spring Rate: 6 kg/mm
• Mono-tube shock design
• Independent ride height adjustable Perch, doesn't compromise Preload (Spring Rates)
• 32 Way dampening adjustment for rebound

I got them for a bargain of $670 shipped
The price of J2 Engineering coilover is very close to the price of Function form type 1.
Alot of guys ask me why not just get Fucntion Forms type 1 instead since it's a more older and known brand.
Well the main reason for this is because Function Forms type 1 is (non adjustable dampening) where as the J2 Engineering comes with 32 way adjustable dampening.

The dampening on the J2 coilovers can be easily adjusted by twisting the **** at the top of the coilovers.

Ride quality:
For the price of these J2 coilovers, They actually ride pretty well on the street and on the race track.

• 1-15 clicks of the dampening the car is slightly bouncy but not as bad as blown shocks and springs
• 16-23 clicks of dampening is ideal for street driving with great cornering ability without sacrificing comfort.
• 24-32 clicks of dampening is where you start to lose comfort on the street and the coilovers starts to feel stiff. It's still bare-able on the street though if you are used to stiff suspension. I mostly use these settings on the race track and weekend canyon spirited drives.

I found the the best dampening setting on the track was 32 front & 26 rear
Note: I'm running rear sub-frame brace with ITR 22m rear sway bar. The rear sway bar made the rear end fill a bit stiffer so I lower the dampening to balance out the car. On the track these coilovers feels great. They don't feel overly stiff but just right. They aren't as great as Buddy Club racing spec coilovers (I've had these on a previous civic I've owned but sold 2 years ago) but they do the job.

My Buddy Club racing spec coilovers definitely got better times on the track than these J2 engineering coilovers but the Buddy Clubs were HORRIABLE ON THE STREET. Even on the lowest dampening setting, my Buddy Club coilovers were too stiff for street use. You can't enjoy your McDonald's with out spilling your soda all over yourself lol.

These J2 Engineering coilovers are great for guys looking to daily their car and do some track days couple times a year.



Lowering:
These coilovers are great for lowering.
For all you Stance/Hellaflush guys, these coilovers can do just that as well.
The picture above is my civic Functional height that I daily drive and track with. In the picture the coilovers are only half way lowered. Meaning there's still another 2-4 inches lower these coilovers can go. I can pretty much put the car to the ground if I wanted to. Unlike shocks and springs, these J2 Engineering coilovers have perch adjustment (height adjustment independent of spring) so you won't have to worry about the car bottoming out.

I bet 1-32 "clicks" don't really make a difference. good luck with these lasting over a year, fyi functionless fails aren't any better.

 

So, did they give you a really good deal because you offered to do a nice write up on them? This looks like advertising to me. Where are they made? China or Taiwan?

 

They look like nice coilovers. Keep us updated because in a year or so they might be better..... Or worse.

 

They look like all the other low budget coilovers out there.

 

The clips actually do make a difference. I've tested these on street and track and the dampers do feel different from 1-32 clicks

I bought them for the price listed, but the main reason for this write is to let others know about an alternative for a budget coilovers

.....but ya never know. He might get a set that lasts for years. Working for Kia now for 7 years, I have seen an 07 Optima with ZERO problems, but then I have seen an 07 Optima with nearly Lemon-Law issues. Both VIN's hours apart.

For that much I would have just gotten some PIC Apex coilovers.

 

Just got back from another track day over the weekend on these coilovers. Still doing good

 

The 1 year update brings some backing to it. Not defending or attacking here, just glad to see follow up on reviews.

 

I agree. It's funny how people are quick to judge without justification or personal experience with the product. I'd like to see more videos. I can't wait to get out and do some racing.

 

I agree. The typical "bolted these on yesterday, they are awesome", then never to be heard from again type reviews are not to be trusted.

1 year beating on them with no issues... fair play.

Probably (definitely) not the last word in damping technology at that price, but at least they're holding up.

 

It's really hard to tell the quality, for me, from the videos though. But the product has lasted at least a year. That's good. I'd like to see yearly updates. After about 5 years of nothing but good things to say, I'd believe it is a great product.

I usually write reviews based on the install and initial quality. But the longevity is really a concern with suspension so a follow up is definitely needed.

 

So how are they holding up man?
