Coilover Input?
I'm starting to build the suspension on my teg for time attack and autoX, and have been doing research on different coilovers - does anyone have any suggestions for ones that would be good for both weekends on the track and some street driving too? I don't care about price, I want good stuff and if I have to save for a while before getting some I will. I was thinking possibly Tein SS, any opinions or suggestions?
tien ss r poopy soft. you'll prolly want to run a fairly high spring rate. Tein HA, RA etc.
You prolly want something with adjustable damping as well.
Im runnin omni 10f/8r on my ek. Im going to upgrade to 14k/12r rears in the future on a different coilover set up.

It says the SS has 16 different damper settings, so that's pretty adjustable, right? I don't know, I was just considering those because I've heard good things about them, and also from people who use them for both the track and street, and that they're very adjustable. I've never heard of Omni, I'll look them up, thanks!
no no. im not recommending omni. they suck. im just saying im running their street set up which is 10kf/8k r.
from what i know, the tein ss is damper adjustable and high adjustable. but their spring rates are a tad on the soft side. They'd be great for daily driving and the occassional autocross. but if you want a serious time attack set up, you gotta look into their higher line of coilovers.

I've run Tein on several different cars and they have always been awesome. Here is the problem, a good track setup is way stiff for the street. I guess it comes down to what you can stand as far as harshness on the street. Call Tein, they'll set you up.
Have you had the SS on any cars you used on the track? I'm just wondering if the highest damper setting is stiff enough for what I want (ha, hopefully I said that right...don't the damper settings go by numbers, and the highest is the stiffest? don't laugh, I've never actually had them on my car or seen anyone make adjustments on theirs

Ok guys, how about the Tein Flex? That's what the people at race inspired told me. The only difference I see is the flex has the pillow ball upper mounts, and I'm guessing they're probably a bit stiffer? Still same number of settings though..anyone have these?
Ok, two questions - I looked up Pic (ha, I'd never heard of them, now I know what the guy a few posts above was taking about..) and found the apex and select - from what I found I'm taking it that with the apex you can't adjust the damper, and it also doesn't have as many spring rate options as the select... as for spring rates is it just the higher the number, the stiffer? (and front/rear?) the options for the apex were 10k/8k and 12k/10k, and for the select there is 10/8, 12/10, 12/14, and 14/18...
My other question is how much of a difference do pillow ball upper mounts make, because the tein flex has those and I don't think the pics do. And I had trouble finding spring rates for the tein flex, too
I'm just still not sure what to get and I'm trying to learn more about the pros and cons to each of these...any info/help is appreciated!!

the optional springs are available for the ss and the flex to suit your needs. They msrp for $50 each spring. Yes, both kits have 16 levels of damping control, however if you get a high spring rate, you will find the ss shock has trouble controlling those high spring rates.
Thanks a lot for the info guys..I'm most interested in the pic select, but not positive which spring option I should get - do you think the p3 (12kf/10kr) since I will be driving on the streets still too? I'm going to email pic and see what they suggest too

12k/10k = 672/560 lb/in spring rates. That is INSANELY high for street use.
I had 380/450 in my car on Ground Controls, and with the higher rear spring rate, even at just 450 lb/in, it was VERY harsh for daily driving.
7k/5k would be more suitable for daily street driving.

Koni Race + Ground Control. End of story.

-I'm not using the car for daily driving, time attack and autox with occasional street driving, I have another daily driver

do you mean a spring/strut combo? cause I want more adjustability than that

more adjustability than what? Ride height adjustment and damper rebound adjustment isn't enough for you? You better get ready to spend $2500 or higher for a coilover setup with separate compression and rebound adjustments then.
Koni Sport shocks + Ground Control coilovers, race proven by drivers and race cars around the world, looks like this:

At $850 for the full setup it's probably one of the best bang-for-the-buck race suspensions you can get.

The P3's are too much spring for daily driver use, there's no need to go that high. We offer the P2's and P1's, which are a little milder and more suitable if you plan on daily driving the car.

I'm actually talking about the Koni 8041-RACE shock, not the regular OTS. They will be a bit more than $850 for the set with GCs, but apparently well worth the $

ok, thanks for the info and pic guys, before I was thinking you were talking about a plain spring and strut not a coilover - ride height and damper are what I want to be able to adjust..I just misunderstood what you were talking about

Well yeah but the OTS Konis are still pretty respectable for weekend racers.
