Default Centered rack n pinon but tie rods are funky

Gents,

I went ahead and installed a depowered Integra dc2 steering rack in my 95 Civic coupe . While I had the rack chucked up in the vise on the bench, I turned the pinion all the way to the left and counted each revolution till it stopped to the right. I came up with 3.50 and divided that by half to find the center. Well once everything was bolted into the car, with the inner and tie rods on. I noticed the driver side outer has more threads into the tie rod than the passenger side. Also it turns more to the left than the right. So where did I go wrong?

Did you expect just to count the number of turn of a tie rod and it would go straight???

You need an alignment.

I figured it out last night by starting from ground zero. From end to end it was 2.75 turns not 3.50. so center of the rack is 1.375 turns. Now I'll take it in for an alignment.

Thanks

Fwiw a good alignment tech will center the steering rack for you anyway.

i had my wheel on a tick off, and when he was done he told me to reinstall the wheel, and there it was perfectly centered.
