Default chattery noise from engine bay... i think ive narrowed it down

its like a high-pitched rapid chattering/squeeking.

i hear it all the time if the clutch pedal is not pushed in... but if i push the clutch in even just a tiny bit it goes away.

some people have told me that its the throwout bearing, but that doesnt seem to make sense b/c i installed the one that ACT supplied with the HDSS clutch kit.

of course this is on my new h22, the clutch is like 4 days old and im pretty sure its been doing this the whole time (cant remember the first day or two but i KNOW it was doing it saturday and sunday). i havent been beating on the clutch at all... just driving like a grandma since im still breaking in the engine

any ideas on what this could be? im assuming its clutch related, i just dont know what it could be since its all new

Well if you heard the noise prior to installing the new TOB and you still hear the noise then I would start to think that it is a bearing in the tranny rather than the TOB. Could be the main shaft bearing...

maybe i said it wrong... when i said "im pretty sure its been doing this the whole time" i meant its been doing it ever since i swapped my engine 5 days ago...

people at work think its the TOB too... but it doesnt make sense b/c its brand new.

does it sound like a metal disc spinning real fast against something else metal? like a "ccshshshshshshsh" sound? i have the same problem and i'm pretty sure it has to be a bearing in the tranny b/c i also changed my clutch recently and have had the same problem with the old clutch and the new clutch. i don't think we could both of installed the TO bearing wrong.

its hard to say... it doesnt sound like metal on metal screeching/scraping noise

its more like if someone were to open and close a squeeky door really fast (like unhumanly fast...)

My guess would also be the throwout bearing. My friends neon did the EXACT same thing after his engine swap. Of course neon throwout bearings are piles of ****.

my TOB was making a noise just like that. I knew it was the TOB because as soon as I touched the clutch pedal, it stopped.

I've got the same noise also. (goes away when I engage the clutch) It's with a new excedy tob. Brian (prospeed) installed it with my Excedy clutch.

As much as you don't want to pull your tranny off again, me thinks its the TOB. Make sure you greese it up good.

FYI, the first ACT clutch I installed had to be redone due to a bad throwout bearing - that was also new

you can do anything if you are in the right. Just get customer support on the line and make a convincing case. ACT would rather keep you as a customer than lose you by stiffing you over a faulty $50 part.

I hope I didn't make a mistake by putting in the Act TOB instead of
the Honda one I bought So far, so good though
