TIMING PROBLEM PLEASE HELP I NEED TO GET MY CAR WORKING SOOON
I know this is an all motor room but I need some help and I have to get my car running in the next couple days. I have a turbo b16. We put a thicker head gasket on to lower the compression and the adjustable cam gears. Now we can't get the timing right and dont know what it could be. Could it be the distributor. My ecu isn't throwing any codes. Does any one know what i could do.
THanks

How much are the gears adjusted? Correct me if I am wrong, but the factory gasket is 0.029" and yours is 0.0787". That is almost a 50 thou difference. If I take the standard 1 degree / 12 thou difference, you should have your cams retarded approx. 4 degrees to zero them.

try this. Put your piston at TDC.Use your dipstick or your timing marks on the pulley.(the white one).
Now line up your cams at #1 TDC and use some alignment pins or a punch and put it through the cam holder hole to keep the cams from moving.
Slide the belt on the crank first and while someone is holding the trailing side to keep tension, put the belt on your exhaust cam.
It prolly wont go straight on so loosen your adjustable cam gears(approx. 4 degrees) to let the belt slide on.
After its on and your still keeping tension on it,put it on the intake cam.You will also have to loosen the gears and retard it the same amount.
Tighten up the gears and tighten up the belt tensioner as normal.
Simple right?

Could this be the cause of the distributor even though my ecu isn't throwing any codes? We have tried just about everything but that.
