problem gettin head off
I bought a b18a today and while trying to remove the cams one of the cam cap bolts broke. It broke right in the middle of the threads. And now i can't get the cam cap off to remove the cams so i can remove the head. What should i do?

no need for that yet...
did you remove all the other bolts yet?
if not start now and the caps are not held down by the rest of the bolt
you will see it sticking out after the cap is remove then use a plier or
vice grip..

well, unfortunately, on that particular cam cap, both of the bolts broke...right in about the same spot....why would they break....i mean i was using hand tools.
I'll take a picture in the morning when i get back from night shift...cause i still have to install the program for my new digital camera....then u will see what i mean.

only the head of the bolt keeps it in there and the dowel pins</TD></TR></TABLE>
this guy is right. only the head of the bolt keeps the cam cap on. just remove the rest of the cam cap bolts. then pull up on the camshaft by the cam gear. that should loosen up all the cam caps. then from there u can use a screw driver to pry up the cam caps. with the cam caps off, use a pliers or something to remove the bolt.

This is all so true...But if you can try to get two nuts on the bolts and use the bottom nut to pull out the bolt. or you can use <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by boosted k20 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> pliers or something to remove the bolt.</TD></TR></TABLE>

just be carefull with the screwdriver....
you could damage the cam guides they act as bearings also...

yea, my bad. dont place the screw driver around where the cam's sit.
this is what i did to remove my cam caps, i loosened all the bolts, then i lifted up the cam gear still connected to the cam shaft. i had to pry it up with a long screw driver first. when all the "seals" are broken on the cam cap, i just used a screw driver to pry up on the cam caps. just make sure u dont place the screw driver in the cam guide are. place it on the flat part not the rounded part

Using 2 nuts is a good idea... after you remove the caps and camshaft you should have some of that broken bolt sticking up, and if you can thread 2 nuts on it, you can tighten them against each other, and then use a wrench on the lower of the 2 nuts to loosen it.... you have to do this anyway to remove fuel rail studs from the intake manifold.
