Default Oil Pressure issue (look y0, it won't take long)

Here's the set-up:

B18A
T3/T4 .63/.60
DPR headwork
big Web turbo custom grinds (barely idles)
....

I don't think any of that matters except maybe the cams, but I seem to read 2 lbs of oil pressure for quite some time on startup.

It goes up after a little bit, but only to around 30 lbs or so, and before I changed it, it was reading around 50 lbs cruising at 3500 rpm or so. I've used the same oil(Amzoil 10W30 turbo) as long as I've owned the car, and it seems to read lower oil pressure when the oil is clean? Doesn't make any sense to me but maybe somebody could clue me in.

The car runs as strong as ever, breaks BFG G-Forces loose at the top of 3rd gear, just like always, and my oil idiot light is working and it does not come on, so I know it's oiling correctly, well that, and I've driven for a week with the same oil pressure reading.

any ideas as to why?

switch to mobile 1 20w-50, or 15w-50, it keeps the turbo in great condition, keeps blow by down to aminimum if you have any, and builds a little more pressure, also its for turbocharged cars...............turbo heats owns oil

yeah, the Amsoil is designed specifically for that. I just want to know why my oil pressure builds quicker when the oil is dirtier?

Because the "dirt" essentially raises the visousity.

Cam's aren't going to affect oil pressure, exactly. Oil pressure @ idle is a function of engine rpm, your oil pump, and how easily the oil slips past bearings/turbo.

What sort of oil pressure gauge? Electric? Homogay capillary tube mechanical? Brand? Are you tapping oil pressure signal off your turbo oil feed line, most notably after any orifices? Have you verified oil pressure with a second oil pressure gauge?

Sorry to hear you're having problems, bro, I know you've spent a grip to make sure your car is right.

but when the idle drops off considerably, like down to 800-900, would that affect oil flow?

It's an old-school Apex'i EL, tapped off at the sandwich adapter on the filter. Oh yeah, I verified, you know what it would cost to replace it I have an idiot light too, and it never, ever has even flickered. I run the **** out of it, and the oil pressure comes up to a more reasonable level, it's like it's just resting at idle...

Thanks for the concern man, but it's still running just like the day I picked it up at Jack's I hear Steven's car is running now, but he keeps blowing charge pipes off and stuff. I really, really want to ride in it.

Dunno how things are for your setup, but I commonly disconnected my IACV to check timing on one of my stock LS/turbo setups, only extra oil being bypassed to drop pressure was the T3 CHRA via some #4 line. Never flickered the oil pressure light (15 psi switch, those are) at 400-500 rpm.

Do your headlights dim at idle and such? Might be voltage drop playing hell with an electric gauge. One of those fancy pants ground setups might cure that for you.

Steven's isn't the only CRX recently/imminently resurrected...

yeah, the headlights do dim at idle at idle a little, I might try that grounding stuff.

and 2 roller skates running at the same time??? That's unpossible!

Next thing you'll be telling me Rob Deal's car is going to run again!

I have seen autometer sensors go bad a few times
Not sure if that is what you are running but it could be your problem.
Also try putting a ground wire on the sensor housing and see if it make a difference.

P.S. we can raise the idle a little if needed the next time your at the shop

I got the charge pipe situations have been resolved for the most part...enough to race sportbikes the past 2 weekends and hold my own against them.

If your car scares you, then I don't want a stain on my passenger seat.

it's that same Apex'i that needed to be wired when it was at your place. It's working fine, but I think I will get the idle bumped a little bit. It sometimes wants to die rolling up to a stoplight

what did you do, weld one long charge pipe with no rubber in it?

and I'm not so much worried about the ludicrous speed, as I am worried about the radiator support coming off and the car splitting in half

Interesting, my car hasn't had a radiator support for almost two years now. She hasn't split in half yet, but I can tell the dirty old ***** wants to...

What makes you say that, Dave? Did you used to own a turbo LS/HF, to know about the lightweight tincan mojo?

Maybe you forget the person who literally lost their breakfast in my B18B turbo LS CRX HF...
