Default oil cooler maybe?

crx gsr with an SC61 turbo setup....

the more i drive the car the lower the oil perssure gets. the more i beat on it, the faster it gets low. oil pressure tends to stay within average numbers(what ive seen on other projects) if i keep driving normal.

the lowest it gets is 9-10psi at idle and 50 at 3k rpm (still within specs). but if i drive around normal for a while and let it cool, it will be 15-20psi and over 60psi.

im used to never seeing under 20psi idle / 70psi 3k+.

question is: do you think an oil cooler will keep me in the higher oil pressure range? seems like im over heating the oil, i dont like being borderline on the spec. im using GTX 10w-30.

i also have a -4AN feed line with no restrictor going to the turbo, think that could also contribute to lower oil pressure?

my oil pressure was always higher before the turbo.

No, an oil cooler will most likely LOWER oil pressure due to frictional losses.

To raise oil pressure you can get an "Accusump" Actually, I think it just helps to maintain oil pressure by keeping a reserve of presurized oil that is released when pressure drops.

You are probably losing oil pressure due to the oil thinning out at very high temps. A good oil cooler should certainly help with that. Also, what weight oil are you running? I just did a Mocal 25 row cooler with -10 lines and oil filter relocation and am very happy with it. Be sure to use a thermostat though.

i think my problem is a combination of many things.

1. -4AN feed line with no restrictor (robs some oil pressure... kindof blowing through the turbo)

2. no oil cooler (oil is getting excessively hot and THINNER)

3. CTR crank pulley (probably wearing out my oil pump and wearing my main bearings)

I have an oil cooler on the way, a stock harmonic balancer, and a oil restrictor soon. If that doesnt take care of everything I will take the oil pan off and explore

i just started it up cold: about 1-2 seconds before it hit 65psi without hitting the throttle, so im pretty sure the pump and bearings are working good.

What weight and brand oil are you using? I get about 90 PSI of pressure when it is cold, dropping to about 30 psi when warm @ idle and 85 PSI anywhere over 3k RPMs.

castrol gtx 10w30. i had 90psi right before i was feeding a turbo.

Ham,

that N1 pulley will rather quickly completely shatter your oil pump gear.

Get a stock crank pulley or Fluidampr.

I prefer and run a fluidampr.

Get a restrictor for your oil feed line

how hard is it to change the oil pump gear? remove timing belt, oil pan... anything tricky or special procedure i need to know in case i decide to do that?

naw, its straight foward really.

remember to lube the lip of the gasket with lube assy so it doesn't grab the crank.

apply liquid gasket where helms says to and all is good.

Replace the whole pump, not just the gears.
