I have to go to emissions as soon as possible and I have had a problem with a secondary o2 sensor(obd2) for a while now. I reset the battery and the check engine light is cleared. When i put on about 40-50miles the Check Engine light comes on. Well to be more technical the code is "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold". The secondary Sensor monitors the cat and if the secondary o2 is bad or getting a bad signal, it will throw a code. Anyways do you guys think I have a chance to pass emissions if i reset the ECU, let the car idle for like 15min then drive over to the emissons place?

On the notice that i have received from Emissons, it says If you have reset your ECU, you need to allow three normal driving days to bring your car in. Anybody want to give me some input on this? From what i heard the ECU relearns your system within 10-15min of letting the car idle after reseting the ECU. I don't know how true that information is, so hopefully you guys can let me know what my chances are of passing.

 

 

i had the same problem..i just reset the ecu right before i left for the smog station and the smog tech never knew anything of it..i still failed the sniffer horribly tho..so i doubt youll pass anyways..good luck

Damn. What code were you throwing? I figure as long as my car is throwing a code for the seconday o2 sensor and not the cat.....i should pass.

 

I'm still getting normal gas mileage and hear no rattle coming from the cat. I am almost positive the cat is still good. I'm thinking it is just a bad secondary o2 sensor. If that is the case i'm thinking i might be able to pass?

 

i think yull be all good, they dont throw the sniffer on yur car so that doesnt matter, its basically just a reading to check for codes. its bullshit, yull pass

 

i had the p0420..cat under threshhold or something..it was my cat for sure. i replaced the cat with a stock one and the cel went off and i passed smog

edit: i just noticed your in IL. im in cali and its super strick with smog so you may be able to get around with your current cat..just reset the ecu right before u smog and try it out. you can also goto the pretest stations if you think u might fail
