did you have all other guages already or something? last thing i would need would be a oil level guage..and dosent the check engine light come on if ur low on oil? i think that works good enough as a guage

if your CEL or Oil light come on due to an oil related issue, its probably already too late

you would need some sort of sending unit to sit in the oil pan, like how there is one in the gas tank. the gas tank has a float that obviously rises and falls with the level of gas and indicates the level to the gauge....i somehow doubt there is an easy way to duplicate that inside the engine or else we would have seen it happen stock a LONG time ago.
if you really want peace of mind, pop the hood, check your oil, check your belts, and check your coolant before starting your car.

If you are concerned about your oil level and dont have enough time to check the dipstick a couple times a week, then I doubt you have enough time to properly care for the car. An oil level gauge is the most unneccesary gauge I could think of. The money would be better spent on an oil pressure gauge so you actually know ahead of time when a oil problem occurs.

you buy one and screw the sender into the block where theres oil pressure, usually people tap the oil pressure from the pressure switch behind the block near the oil filter, then put the guage inside where u can see it, simple as that.
