Default GSR Timing Ghost! Help Please!!!!!!

Fellas,

I need some help out here. I really can't seem to shake this timing ghost. I remember my timing on my past gsr and civic si and the distributor was in or close to the middle position on the head cast. I recently bought a 94' gsr and recently replaced the water pump and timing belt. The timing seems to be off. I have checked the cams and crank and the dist looks to be fully advanced to get at 16deg. When I set it in the middle position it runs like crap. Is this the correct positioning for the distributor or is there something I am doing wrong? I also realized that my crank pulley is an ls and it reads a tooth off but on the crank it reads right on, so it leads me to believe the crank pulley is off. If anyone can help me please post up you solutions or suggestions. I need some feedback to help me figure this out.

Thanks
Joe

you have to advance the dizzy so much to get the engine timed since you did'nt put the timing belt completely right; prolly a little off.
try doing it again
as far as the crank pulley, all b -series have the timing marks in the same place

I don't know if this is possible on Honda pulleys, so maybe mmuller knows??

M,

I spun the motor about 6 times to check for slippage and everything is perfect. The crank sprocket is aligned with the oil pump and the cam gears are matching at there horizons. I have timed this car about 7 times and can’t seem to figure out what the problem is. It is getting a spar attic flash from the timing light so I replaced the plugs and the wires. I opened up the cap and checked the contacts and the rotor and it was fine. The idiot who I bought the car from did a hack job so I am wondering if he fed up the harness some ware. I took the car to Superior Racing and Development here in AZ and they told me it was right on the marks and that they didn't know what was up. Man fellas do you have any more suggestions?

Thanks

you say you timing light is skipping pulses? mine was doing the same thing and the the pick up on the light was broken, thus giving me wrong readings.
you could try a different light.
just throwing ideas.

also, what wires are hacked up?inside the dizzy?

M,

I am going to replace the rotor and cap this weekend. I was looking at my harness and discovered that I have two extra wires just hanging on my harness, one is yel/grn and the other is black. I was thinking he may have used the wrong harness because all the plugs are stretched and look like they are too short. It may be an ls harness? I am going into the harness today and confirm what those wires are. They are weird because they are the bullet style connector plugs so I am unsure at this time what they go to. If any of you know lmk. I thank you all for your help!

Thanks

Is the car running badly when advanced? If not, why the fuss at all? I've had timing lights skip pulses on me too, its annoying, but more than likely just the pickup lead missing the spark.

So it sounds like your cams are timed OK. But I'd always be suspicious of the pulley slipping further in the future.

If you can put your lower cover & crank pulley back on without turning the crank, just note where the TDC mark is. Use that same offset to set your spark timing.

Seems like it's not too rare for timing lights to skip a beat sometimes. You don't really have to panic about that if there no other reason to believe the actual SPARK is missing.

Older Saabs are known for this. The rubber isolator in the pulley gets oil on it & starts slipping. Then the pulley often shifts inwards & grinds a hole thru the oil pump.

I never saw any rubber dampening on any pulleys on a B-series?
