help: my fuel gauge isnt reading correctly
i usually get 300 miles with about 10 gallons of fuel. lately ive been noticing that when my trip odometer reaches 300 miles that my fuel gauge isnt on empty but at roughly a quarter tank and when i go to refuel, i always put in 10 gallons or so. has anyone experienced this before or got any ideas how i could fix this?
I dunno - mine hasn't screwed up yet. I'm pretty sure the Helm book says how to test the sender. What resistance is correct for full 1/2 & empty. Then there's probably a way to test the gauge in the cluster...
Got any corroded wiring connections back at the sender?

Mine does the same thing, at a full tank, it only reads about 4/5ths. Its very unnerving, because when I have about 1/5th, it looks like its bone dry. Bump.
Yup same type of fuel gauge problems here too. After I fill up half a tank and travel about 20 miles my gauge goes to half and stays there for up 80 or so more miles. I only get about 200 miles on 1 tank
and I don't drive very aggressively either.

Yours doesnt really sound like our problems, it sounds like you have a leak somewhere, while ours is the gauge is simply off target. I still get 340MPT-or about 31MPG. Unless im haulin' ***.

I wish I got 31 mpg, I usually average 19 - 22.
If nothing else, you can take the needle off and put it back on ina different position. If its the sender unit or the wireing, you'll want to replace that. I'm sure you can look up what the correct readings fomthe unit should be, just get a multimeter and check.

I took off the needle and put it back where I thougt it was supposed to be. Its not super accurate, but close. I filled up my gas and topped it off, then place where the needle should be when its topped off.
