2012 Pilot fuel gauge and refueling difficulty
After 296 miles since filling up, the fuel gauge should read less than 1/4 full as 17.3 gallons has been consumed in a 21 gallon tank.
My wife has a 2012 Honda Pilot that we purchased new. It gets pretty normal wear and tear with only about 10,000 miles per year. On a road trip, I noticed that after 150 miles, the fuel gauge registered as full. Now the car gets OK mileage but there was no way this was correct. When I refueled the care after 250 miles, I expected to put in 12.5 gallons of fuel into the tank but the pump stopped at 7.5 gallons. I knew this was wrong so I “squeezed” 5 additional gallons in until I could actually see the gasoline in the filler tube. I have brought the car to the dealer 4 times now and despite my documenting the mileage and taking photos of the fuel gauge of miles traveled and the fuel gauge reading, Honda service tells me there is nothing wrong with the car. I even took video of me refueling the car and how, each time, the pump comes up short by about 5 gallons. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, how was the problem solved? Calling American Honda was also fruitless as they simply call the dealership who tells them there is no problem.
There is no way I have more than 3/4s of a tank after 199 miles. At an average fuel economy of 16.8 MPG, the fuel gauge should read less than half.
