Default incident at oakland runs

So i pulled out my friends good ol'
90 dx hatch with b16a
aftermarket restricted muffler

We were running a msd 2-step setup,
as i was pulling out to line up
i was in 1st gear while holding the 2-step
(set up at 3k rpm)
i released it to take off to the line
*POP* sounded like a big backfire
suddenly "MMMMMmmmMMMmmmM"
sounded like i was running straight pipe
I knew i blew something and it wasn't good.

After the race (i won) i pulled over to check out what i blew.
Looked under the hood, everything was fine.
Went behind the car and the muffler can was hanging pretty low.

OPPS! I BLEW THE MUFFLER!!!!

here are the pictures of the night after, i pulled it off and installed a new muffler on.

Lesson learned

at least you didnt blow the welds on the intake manifold, now THAT would have been trouble.

yeah, i did that with an MG i had years ago... sucked, 'cause the muffler blew out on top and lit the carpet on fire under my ***!

(in US market MGB's, the exhaust system runs under the driver's floor pan)

we were also there on thursday, was the STI white? i was talking to a group that had a white STI and a black trunk, i was out there in a dark blue EF with a garden liner lip....

the picture of the guy cutting the muffler apart is a friend of mine. i pulled up to his house with the blown muffler 11 at night, dragged him out to weld on the new muffler

he's on these fourms too (lamchop000)
with the red crx and the defusers

yep, we posted it up untill 6 in the morning.
the STI friends broke his oil pan on the top of the bridge on 23rd.
so we had to wait at the gas station untill a tow truck came.

if you saw the flat black EF roll with the STI, that is the one i blew the muffler, on tuesday

I've always wanted to know what the inside of a muffler looks like. Now I know. And knowing is half the battle. G.I.Joe
