my dad is complaining about it because he said you cant but a different engine in a different car witch i dont see why not....im wanted to swap engines in my hatch! so i was wondering if any of you all now anything about this ****?

Your dad is wrong. California law states that you can replace your current motor with any motor that is the same year or newer than your car. So if you had a 1996 Civic you can put anything that is 1996+ in it. You would need all the smog emissions control devices that came with the new motor as if you had purchased it new. You can also purchase Japanese motors to swap in but they would also have to have all the emissions controls based on the U.S. specs. You may have a little more difficulty with these though.
