Help cleaning hard water/film off exterior windows!!! (searched)
I was hoping someone could please help me with this, I am going crazy!!! Ive searched and searched and tried everything Ive found. The problem is the hard water deposits (I guess thats what it has to be) on the windows (they cover 100% of the windows) on my 93 ls will not come off with anything. Ive tried windex, windex with newspaper, clr, ammonia, lemon juice, rubbing alcohol, oven cleaner, clay bar, wax, blades, steel wool (in conjunction with many of the above cleaners) and probably even a couple more. It will NOT come off. Barely even did anything with all of the above stuff. And when wiping with with a paper towel the window feels really rough and you can feel the paper towel "dragging" pretty badly. If anyone has any hints, tips, etc I would really appreciate it! Anything to get rid of these damn spots!
Ok buddy why dont you read my post and you can see i tried everything listed in that post...stop jumping on the "search" bandwagon

It is very hard to search on this site, and read through thousands of useless chat in between. The reason you found it is because you saw it when it first posted.

AZ has totally hard water and all you have to do is get zapped by someones sprinklers to get the hard water spot effect.
Do not use this on your paint it will hurt the finish.
Take 1 part CLR (you can find it at Walmart in the cleaners section) to 10 parts water. Spray on your windows let it sit for 3 secs and the hard water spots will come right off.
Make sure you watch out for your paint

if it's anything like overspray, i used brake cleaner with a blade
gotta press down firmly or nothing will happen and just keep on going over it till you don't hear/feel the blade dragging on the glass anymore

Zaino glass polish. I've had the same problem and this stuff WILL take it off. Also their car polish will bead like mad and last for a REALLY long time. It's the only thing I use now...

Sorry to bring my own topic back from the dead, but none of this stuff has worked at all. The zaino worked slighly, but it took me over an hour to do a spot the size of a bill. Can i buff the windows/use something else? Any ideas? From what I understand it is more likely acid rain damage that has "etched" the windows.
Also, I have an air tool that is like a dremel, if i use that with a cloth-type wheel on it and the zaino, would that damage my window?

I work at a detail shop, and just about a month ago we got a new product that removes these "hard water spots" on windows. I'll take a look at what the stuff is called. It works wonders
Well, I'm back from work, and I asked the boss, and there is no specific name for the stuff we use, because we get it from our chemical man, and he makes the product himself. The product is acid based, and eats up a bit of the sponge we use to apply to the windows, but it works wonders. A good bet you can drive to your area detail shop, and see if they have what your looking for. I can tell you though, if you wait too long (or have waited too long) to remove the hard water/acid rain spots, it etches down in the glass and your %&!##@.
Thank you so much for asking about that stuff for me though, I really really appreciate your help. I will go to nearby shops and see if they have anything like it. I think Im taking pics soon, and maybe you or someone could tell me exactly how bad it is and maybe it will make it easier to diagnose, as I think its a little worse than the normal hard water marks. Thanks again!!!
