Icon3 Help - removing window tint

i wanna strip all my tint off

i've been told to use a blow dryer and it'll just peel up, but it's not working too sweetly.

any other ideas?

thanks in advance.

i just ripped mine off, then took windex to soften the glue and scraped it off with a razor blade

You best bet is to use a razer blade to get underneath a corner of it then try and peel it off. After you've actually gotten all the "tint film" off, you'll need a razer blade, some Johnson's baby shampoo, and a little water. The way to do it is to put a little water with the baby shampoo so that it's not as thick, then rub it onto the "glue" that is leftover from peeling off the tint film. After you do that it's as simple as scraping it off with the blade. Make sure you keep the glue nice and wet with the shampoo and water and it'll work pretty easy.

I just did a friend of mine's driver and passenger windows and it looks like there was never tint on it. Glass is perfectly smooth with no scratches or marks to show that I took it off. Doing the back window is very tricky though. Most of the time you'll peel the defrost lines off the glass if you try to remove the tint. Usually the back window is best left to a tint shop to do, that way if they do take it off they'll be responsible for it and not you.

the best way. heat and a razor blade

IF you do NOT use heat on your rear window you WILL remove the defrost lines (whatever their called) and you'll know longer have defrost ability

Like I said, it works amazing. I got the idea from a friend that actually worked at a very reputable tint shop locally. That was the method they had always used for tint removal. The shampoo is nice because it keeps the razer from trying to dig into the glass and also it helps to keep the tint glue from going all over your door panel and carpet. Since the shampoo is water based it will clean right off whatever you may get it on also. It does get kind gross looking though when you do the job since the tint glue will mix in the shampoo, almost looks like snot. lol Like I said though, it cleans up very easy, just get yourself an old towel and some water to clean it off. After you're doing take some paper towels and glass cleaner to clean everything up.

+ 2 for the baby shampoo. Be careful with the blade.

well i successfully got all the tint off, except for a small portion on the back window that is pinned underneath the rear window-wiper motor box

other than that, it looks pretty good and i'm stoked to be rockin the fish bowl

thanks again for the suggestions and help, i got more done on my car with a single razor blade today than i have in a while

no tint is the way to go on any car that is NOT black, IMHO.

otherwise it just looks ghetto

hell ya, i threw up this threat about tint vs. fish bowl a while back

and this dude with the same color hatch as mine, posted pics of his whip all fish bowled-out and it inspired me to ditch the darkness.

now i just gotta paint my side skirts and door moldings to match the green like he did and i'll be good to go.
