A friend of mine has been boosted for a few weeks now. He has a y7 longblock with a y8 manifold. For whatever reason, it is not sealing on the top portion of the head and IM. We scraped both surfaces, used a new gasket, and that didnt work. We took it off, coated it with sealant and put it back on and it didnt change a thing. Are the 96-98 and 99-00 y8 manifolds different at the flange? a local shop told me this but idk if its true, i definitly dont know enough about d series, so this is a learning experience. any help appreciated

aight will definitly check that out...what about the big "dish" in the IM, i dont see how it could let air leak, but its about the size of half of a grape
i was having the same problem with the IM swap. i also have a 96 dx. i tried to put the 99-00 one one there. i did seal off all the extra holes. it still had some type of vacuum leak.
so then i changed it out to a 96-98 one. it still had the same thing wrong with it. the problem was a surging idle. i checked EVERYTHING. i have been checking stuff for a week now. so i guess i am going to take it to a machine shop and see if it is warped.

all 99-00 y8 manis have extra "fuel injection" holes to save gas....you will see them cus im 100% sure thats where your leaks are coming from. seal em up and you wont have a problem. 96-98 y8s are different from the 99-00s
edit: to seal up the extra fuel injection holes on my y8 manifold....i drilled some screws into the holes w/ some gasket sealant on it to seal it up for sure.

your problem is most likely your pcv valve. this i am 75% sure of it....unless you got a BIG *** LEAK that makes your engine bounce from 1,000-1,500ish..

i doubt your manifold has a warp in it....your best bet is to grab some carb cleaner....and just spray that **** all around your im to see wheres it leaking from. new pcv valve and still surges? thats odd indeed....better check your **** twice

how about checking it 3 times, 10 times, no wait 30 times. i have checked everything from gaskets to grouments. i can not find anything wrong. the only other thing that i can come up with is that i am using the stock dx TB. so don't have to wire up the 2 wire one.
