Default What is resleeving

I am curious, what does it mean to have a block resleeved? How does this affect a stock engine?

Your stock sleeves are removed, and usually stronger sleeves are put in place.

The sleeve is the circular area around your piston.

What is the space for between the outside of the sleeves and the inside of the block? How does the decreased amount of space inbetween the block and sleeves due to their increasded thickness affect the engine? Does this relate to wether a block is open or closed? Also how do sleeves attach to the block?
