Default Shift Linkage *roll pin*

ahh, im ready to pull my old junk out of my 90 civic hatch. But before i can i need to take off the torque rod and linkage. Well theres a roll pin in the shift linkage...that seems to be impossible to get out. In the book it shows the guy just grabbing it out with his fingers YEAH RIGHT Does anyone know how to get this out? would be most appreciated

You need the correct sized punch and a good hammer. Make ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THE PUNCH IS THE RIGHT SIZE. Did you catch that? If the punch is too small then it will get stuck inside the pin if its to big then the punch will get stuck inside the linkage. Don't ask me what size it is cause its the one one with the nasty hammer marks in MY tool box.

An air hammer/chisel is the easiest way . . .

A 1/4 inch craftsman extension and a hammer has always worked for me.

sometimes its just easier to unbolt the shifter from inside the car and yank out the shift linkage with the motor. if you need to reuse the shift linkage it is a lot easier to get out when its out of the car then while you are under it.

Air Hammer will take 10 seconds if you have access to one.

go to sears, and buy assortment of metric punches. You will need them again someday anyways.

i take that bitch pin out in 5 seconds

take a med size phillips screwdriver, a tube and a hammmer

place the screwdriver on top of the pin, and rest against the tranny.... so u can reach and hammer it, use the tube and place it on top of the screwdriver so u are able ot hit it and push the screwdriver..
just give it a good wack

always works for me and its out in 5 seconds

i use 10mm body bolt and a 3" extension with a 10mm socket on it. hit it a couple times and it will flatten the end couple threads, unscrew the bolt from the pin, and you have a punch. whack it a few times with a hammer and it should pop out.

also, if you can get to it, a couple 6" extensions work very well to pound it out from the top..
