how can i tell if a distributor is from a Z6 or a obd1 non-vtec engine?

There should be marking codes around it. Also a non VTEC distributor wont fit on a VTEC head, atleast from what i understand, i could be wrong of course.

 

ok what codes would there be...i want to buy a distributor off of a member, but he doesnt know if its vtec or non, this is to find out to see if i want to buy it...

 

Non VTEC: OEM# TD41U

VTEC: OEM# TD42U

I think thats the codes that youll fine. Also i think theres 2 more wires on the VTEC distributor then the Non VTEC one. HTH

 

theres a couple of different variations. basicaly all the dist. from 88-91 and 96-00 sohc are the same bolt pattern as well as the non vtec 92-95. the z6 and z1 from 92-95 are the same but are different from the rest. the # on it will shed some light. look around on here. find the td-** #and call a honda dealership and have them reference it. thats what i had to do.
