Will all obd1 d-series distributors work for any obd1 d-series motors?

the VTEC and non-VTEC models require a different distributor.
all though I have heard of people using a non-VTEC distributor on a VTEC engine.

how can you tell if its vtec or not?

td-41u is non-vtec i think and td-42u is vtec, also the bolt patterns are different...
