Default non equal length manifold?

what would happen if you over exaggerated a cast mani. Say for example you make the #2 and 3 cylinders 6" long. And you make the #1 and 4 cylinders 12" long. Would this just cause unequal air flow in the cylinders and fry the motor, or could it possibly give you the benefits of both sides (faster spool, with a little more top end than a log style). Just an idea, i'm thinking it would cause the #1,4 to run lean, but i didn't see anything when i searched, and its a question worth asking

The point of having equal length runners is to get a sudden exhaust charge to spool up the turbo quickly, then wait for the next pulse and have them equally spaced. Smoother (i guess)

Tuned length manifolds are (from what I undertstand) mate 2 or more exhaust pulses together in order to make a harsher spool, but with more 'lag time' in between. not as smooth (I guess)

Then theres the convo. about 4-1 or 4-2-1 manifolds and that just gets more complicated.

Another factor to consider is that a longer pipe will have more of a restriction than a shorter pipe giving unequal afr's per cyl.

Yes and we can go into how a longer runner means a cooler gas, therfor means a slower flow, but that is best left until later.

i had the general points established, but thanks for clearing some of the stuff up guys. i was really more focused on the tuned length manifolds. to bad each cylinder can;t be tuned by itself, or some crazy **** would probably be going down

Any real stand-alone EMS can do this easily. Individual cylinder mapping has been around a while.
