How long to take to install Input shaft bearing?
There is whining in neutral and its the input shaft bearing. My clutch needs to be done as well. Since the box is dropped I might as well get it opened up and get the input shaft bearing replaced. How long will a skill mechanic take to just install a input shaft bearing not counting the time it takes to take out the box.
The box is a JDM Y21
Cheers

It took me less than 2 hours to pull the tranny apart, replace mine, and then put the box back together my first time. That didn't include dropping it off of the car, but it's a really simple process.
Yeah, about 1-2 hours seems right - I had a second set of hands too - invaluable for doing this.
I think the longest/hardest part for me was getting the whole gear cluster back in and situated correctly - without a second set of hands, it would have sucked ***.
Getting the cases seperated and put back together - quite easy - getting them back together though, I couldn't seat the snap ring in the groove all the way - so you get it 1/2 seated (so it stays put with tension) and then turn the tranny over and drop it 1/2" and presto.
Are you doing this yourself or trying to price out labor/hour to make sure you're getting a fair deal from the shop?

Yeah, dropping in the countershaft/mainshaft assemblies and getting all of the locking rings (gear selectors) set back in place right by yourslef is more than a PITA. Those gears are sharp as hell and are also heavy not to mention a PITA to get all situated. A second set of hands is a lifesaver.
The worst part of it for me was getting the damn snap ring to seat properly. I faught with that damn thing for at least 2 hours. Everything else went smoothly though and quick.

He can charge however much he wants, its a pain in the *** job. It takes me a weekend at least (2 full days) to do a tranny/clutch job when I do it.

Sounds resonable for doing everything yourself, bout the same time it took me doing it myself the first few times.
