Well i just swapped an RB25DET into my S13 (i know its not a honda, but all the nissan boards suck dick) and well i finished the swap and the motor ran amazingly well.

Well a few days ago i took off my manifold and sand blasted it. Well today i put it back on, and was driving my car around and the turbo is making an extremely loud whine under boost.

What could be the cause of this? A friend told me the center shaft could be cracked/broken, and another friend said low oil pressure, so I thought id ask H-T.

 

It is possible that you didn't clean all of the particles of sand/grain, and when you ran your car again, the particles ran into your turbo damaging it.

 

hmm it is a possibility but i sprayed it with desolvit and then ran a towel through each port, i thought i got all of the gritty stuff out.

 

I think its b/c its a 240 .

Are you sure its coming from the turbo? It only happens under boost? How many miles have you put on the motor? When you removed the manifold did you remove the lines from the turbo? You may have needed to prim the oil pump and didnt then starved the turbo for oil?? Was there any shaft pay or dings/dents on the wheel?

PS: You are right about the 240 sites sucking. I would still post there and see what people say.

My turbo had a really loud high pitch whistle and it turned out to be the shaft was bent. Mind you, I was'nt making any boost.

 

make sure the wheel is not making contact with the housing.

 

Yea its cool now, im pretty sure its just the filter. I put a real filter on it and i think its just the new filter making a whistle.

Yes it has an external gate, boost is still fine, still pulls amazingly strong, I just think its the larger filter thats on there now.

The filter will make a whistling sound. If you didnt have one on there before then that is the sudden new noise you are hearing.

 

Alright cool, yea it was just scary at first because i never heard this whistle then i start my car up after a few weeks and it makes a whistle i was all like wtfmatebbq?!!!1
