Default A/C making strange noise, help pls.

I rarely use my a/c in my R, but recenly I turned it on for a while on the interstate. I pulled up to a drive-through and heard an intermittent clicking noise coming from the engine bay. After I got my aRby's I pulled off to a parking spot and opened the hood. It sounded like a bearing rubbing or something. The only time I've heard a similar noise was in my 300zx days before my power steering pump bearing blew out= a mess. Anyway, I turned it on again today and immediately noticed the same noise. It doesn't happen when the air is on, only when a/c in engaged. I was thinking my compressor may be going bad, although it blows cold. Any idea's? Thanks

Are you sure the intermitted "click" is not your compressor clutch engaging?

Any chance it's the A/C fan by the radiator, not the compressor itself?

Its due to the fact you do not use the a/c often. By occasionally using the a/c keeps the system lubricated. You may also want to check for belt tensioner and perhaps a belt replacement.

I agree, most likely the tension on the A/C belt.

I have a similar sound also only when I turn the A/C on. Sounds like a repetative clicking/chattering. I was thinking it was the belt as well.
