put in a b16 a few weeks ago, but didnt have a knock sensor, thus a check engine light, however i still went into vtec, my car has been out of service for the passed 3 weeks, i just put a new tranny in yesterday start it up today, and i have no vtec, why is this, ill be hooking it up the the scanner as soon as i have time, but wanted to know ur opinions

ill probably get the "could be anything, dude, find what code ur running", but i thought id ask since im bored

first off, you dont need a scanner to check the CEL codes... and did you let the car warm up a while before you tried to take it up to the VTEC RPM range?

What year is your car? If its OBD1 i dont think you could hook up a scanner to it, but dont quote me on it.

Anyway your problem more then likely is that your in limp mode. Does the car feel weaker? Im pretty sure because of the knock sensor thats why you dont have VTEC. Hook up the knock sensor and your problem should be gone.

hmm, i dont think knock sensor will put your car into limp mode. i dont remember but i think my buddy's b16 was running w/o it.

ima assuming you had an EG. since youre parting out a Z6. in teh EGs there was bad wiring behind the intake manifold in the harness and sometimes the speedo and odometer go a lil crazy. its hard to find. ive yet to find the problem in mine

i had the speedo problem in my 95 coupe w/b16 also. check the ground wire to the speed sensor. just run a new ground and make sure it has good connections and a solid ground. also, cut the wire a little way away from the sensor so that you have some leeway to make mistakes. my wires to my speed sensor plug are now about an inch long.

guys, its got nothing to do with the connection, i have taken the vss out and while plugged in, turned the VSS and the speedo moves, this shows that the VSS is fine and work, its not catching inside the tranny

there is a screen that traps debree from flowing through solenoid. pull it off and check to see if you need to clean tha screen. also the speed sensor on that tranny might be fucked. good luck.
