Vtec Vs Vtec-E Whats the Difference?! (Searched)
in sohc's vtec is found on either the exhaust OR the intake lobes of the cam, this is done because there is not enough space in the head along the cam.
in the sohc, vtec is found on the intake lobes of the cam. this generates greater power and is the type in comonly known sohc vtec's like the z6 and y8 in ex/si civic's.
vtec-e is found in the vx and later hx models which has the vtec on the exhaust lobes of the cam. this generates greater efficency but not really any power.
therefore NO it cannot be changed, 2 completely different designs. but you could however put the common vtec head, in place of your vtec-e head, on your vtec-e motor.. creating a mini-me. search for a detailed how-to FAQ on this.

vtec e has smaller than normal cam lobes which are effective at lower rpms saving you gas and making no power, and when you reach a higher rpm you get your advertised horsepower which is 92 ponies in a vx. its basically the opposite of vtec (more aggresive than normal lobes at higher rpms) ......hope this answers your quetion and by the way i own a 92 vx, stock for now b18b turbo soon to come.
ok- vtec -e has a much lower vtec engagement point, somewhere arould 2800 rpm(i dont remember exact offhand). the cam itself does not have an additional larger vtec intake lobe as the regular vtec, instead it has only 2 intake lobes (which are slightly more aggressive then the regular non vtec lobe in the regular vtec). when not in vtec, the vtec e only runs 1 of 2 intake valves, creating more turbulance in the cylinder and allowing for better mixing of air and fuel, so it can run leaner safer due to better mixture. when in vtec, the vtec e runs 2 intake lobes and therfore both intake valves. the bonus to this is that the vtec e when not in vtec uses much less fuel then a 16 valve motor, coupled with the long gears of the stock trannys to keep the driver below vtec in cruising and light driving situations yields very good gas milage. also, the d16y5 has roller rockers
