How long will my tranny last with a turbo???
I have a 1994 Accord EX with the slushomatic. The ONLY reason I am keeping it is because the wife HATES standard trannys. I am considering a DRAG turbo kit on the factory F22 SOHC VTEC. Does anyone know or have experienced a turbo kit with the slushomatic? The car has 160k miles on it. I just have the basics done right now (ie-modified factory airbox, K&N, custom 2.25" catback w/ TSudo stainless muffler, NGK Platinum plugs). They work for now, but, I need more power! I have considered the H22A Swap, but, in my case, to much hassle! I'm experienced with Turbo Kits, not so much with engine swaps. Any help ANYONE can give me would be greatly appreciated! I would love to hear what ANYONE has to say about this or thinks about my situation!
Thanks!
Thanks!
1. Run a compression (possibly leakdown for reassurance) test to see if your engine is in good working order.
2. Some people have good results w/ 'slushomatics' on Hondas, some dont. It seems really random, but more often than not the tranny gives before the motor, ie. premature.
3. You can possibly build the tranny, ie. Level10 http://www.levelten.com or something along those lines.
4. Your engine is getting pretty high up there in terms of miles, even for a Honda, you might want to consider additional routes before dropping 3,000$ on a turbo when the car is worth sub $4.

What should the factory c/r numbers be at on the gauge? I know the stock compression ratio is 8.8:1, but, not on the gauge. Also, do you think that the miles are to high to even attempt a Turbo without a complete rebuild?

Off hand, I dont know the psi you should be running, but just run the test, and see if you have an abnormally low # on any of the cylinders, its best to check it out before doing any work. I'm sure someone else on these boards more familiar w/ your engine will know the specific pressure... and in regards to the mileage, Hondas last forever, (friend had a CRX for 17 years and 200,000 before anything went wrong with it, the clutch died and she sold it cause she didnt want to replace it, PFFTTT), its up to your judgement, if you think the cars in good/perfect running order, go for it, but if its anything but that, I wouldn't waste my time or money on a upgrade that will only shrink its lifespan.
I had considered selling it to buy a newer car, but I thought it would be more worth it to keep the car I have, especially because its paid off, and jsut do the upgrades. Rather than buying a 20,000 car to replace it. the problem I'm having is convincing the wife to let me do it. It was hard enough getting her to let me do the exhaust and the stereo system I have, and she still complains about that!

If either you or wifey depend on this car, why the hell do you want to strap on a drag or any turbo?

my 95 nonvtec f22 is supposed to read 178 across the cylinders....and at 200k miles it reads between 180 and 185 across all cylinders....not too bad. i would guess the vtec would be the same...since the only difference is the head.
could be wrong i guess...

Screw the wifey, mine hated manuals before I bought my accord. I bought the bitch without her knowing and after she learned how to drive it well, she loves it!! Pull the "slushomatic" and drop in a manual.
