Weird sound came from my 4700 mile S today..
I was sitting at a stop light in neutral. The light turned, so I pushed in the clutch, put it in first, started to go and all of the sudden I heard a loud "boomish" sound. I pushed the clutch in immediately and it seemed like the car had popped out of first gear.
However, it didn't make a grinding noise. The car drove fine after with no ill effects so far, anyone know what happened?

That's kind of weird dude. As long as the car feels that it is running normal I wouldn't worry about it too much. Do a quick visual of the motor and tranny and look for any type of fluids or anything out of the ordinary. If it happens again then bring it to the dealership.

It always funny when you're trying to imitate sounds online...so..I don't know exactly what the "boomish" sound really sounded like..
But, in my 04, at any time i'm stopped if I put it into first gear rather quickly, I'll hear a light "thunk" and feel it go into gear. Only if I try to "rush" it into gear.
