i have a 98 ex y8 with a spun bearing and have found a y7 bottom end
will it bolt right up to my head?
im hearing that i might have to do something with the knock sensor
and links would be nice
and advice
the guy is waiting on me to tell him if i want the motor

yup, it'll work fine since the Y7s have a knock sensor too.

 

so is it just a direct swap or do i have to do more?
sensors and all?

You will get codes, but you already have one on your y8 block, so just unscrew it and screw it into your y7 block

a d is a d no matter how you look at it and you do not need a knock sensor for v-tec.

just comfirmed that i will throw a code but no performance probs
if this wasnt right, how do ls/vtec owners get by with not having a knock sensor?

It has a threaded hole for one, Y7/Y8 blocks are exactly the saem, except for the sleeves

 

spade... y7's have knock sensors?... last couple y7's i've worked on that was a negative bro

 

isnt the knock sensor on the head and i think the knock is only neccesary for dual cam. motors.. a single will run vtec fine with the vtec wire and oil pressure or whatever that 2nd wire is. im pretty sure not the expert though. just but a d16z6 bottom end or zc vtec y test it doing a mini me. may create more power then the stock y8 does though.

 

If you see any obd2 y7's with knock sensors (don't know about obd2b), then the ecu is not looking for it, or even ocnnnected to it.
